Enjoy the journey
“Let your joy be in your journey – not in some distant goal”. Tim Cook
I don’t know who Tim Cook is but there’s a lot of wisdom in this; Philip and I are often reminding each other to “enjoy the journey”. In other words, we need to enjoy what we are doing now, not just look forward to the end result.
Christmas is a good example – it’s important to enjoy the build-up and the preparations because it’s all over in one day. We need to enjoy the cooking and shopping, wrapping up presents and putting up the tree.
Life itself is a journey; there’s no point living for retirement – after all, there’s no guarantee we’ll get that far!
Jesus says, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10) and he talks repeatedly about our “joy being full”. He is calling us to live life to the full, here and now. He is saying that there is cake on the plate and pie in the sky!
