What we believe
There is one God, who exists eternally in three equal but distinct persons: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. God is good, wise and just.
2 The Bible
Every word of the Bible was inspired by God through human authors; so the Bible, as originally given, is the Word of God without error. The Bible is the sole source of all we teach and believe.
3 The Human Race
The first people God created (Adam and Eve) disobeyed God. All men and women are naturally sinful and without spiritual life, hostile towards God and therefore under his just condemnation.
4 The Lord Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born sinless of a virgin and lived a perfect life in obedience to the Father. Jesus died in the place of sinners, bearing God’s punishment for their sin. He rose from the dead physically, has ascended into heaven and will come again.
People are accepted by God entirely on the basis of the life and sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation cannot be earned or merited by human works. Through the gospel God calls people, by his Spirit, to come to him and enables them to repent and gives them faith. All who believe in Christ are justified by faith alone.
6 The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has been sent from heaven to glorify Christ and to reveal the purpose of his life, death and resurrection. He convicts of sin, gives spiritual life and a true understanding of the Bible. He lives within all who have faith in Jesus, giving them assurance of salvation, enabling us to serve God and helping them to become more like Jesus.
7 Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
Baptism by immersion is a symbol of dying, the end of the old life without God, and rising to a new, spiritual life with God. In the Lord’s Supper we remember Jesus’ sacrifice. The bread and wine are only symbolic. Believers’ baptism and regular participation in the Lord’s supper are commanded by Jesus.
8 The Future
The Lord Jesus Christ will return in glory. All the dead will be raised and judged. Those who died without faith in Jesus will be sent to eternal punishment (hell) and those who died trusting Jesus to save them will be taken to be with God for eternity in heaven.
9 The Gospel
Before the world was made God chose to save a people for himself and adopt them as his children. Jesus was appointed as their Saviour. John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. The good news of salvation for sinners through faith in Christ is to be proclaimed to everyone. Romans 10:13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
